Michael Jackson Dies at 50

MICHAEL Jackson has died after suffering what is believed to have been a heart attack in Los Angeles.

The singer, who gave the world the best break dance and the biggest selling record in human history, was pronounced dead soon after he arrived at an LA hospital.

He died on June 25 in a Los Angeles hospital in the United States , closing the chapter on the story of a man who became world-famous as a child, charmed the world with his dance steps and hit songs and left the stage with more myths and puzzles in his trail.

The Los Angeles Times reported on its website yesterday that “Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The Times.”
The TMZ entertainment website had broken the news which shocked the world, coming a month to his scheduled comeback tour.

Earlier, the Los Angeles Times said the singer had been rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital by fire department paramedics who found him not breathing when they arrived at the singer’s home.

The newspaper said paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene before taking him to the UCLA Medical Center hospital.

Jackson had been due to start a series of concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010. The singer had been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.

The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within minutes of going on sale in March.

His lifetime record sales tally is believed to be around 750 million, which, added to the 13 Grammy Awards he received, makes him one of the most successful entertainers of all time.

He lived as a virtual recluse since his acquittal in 2005 on charges of child molestation.

There were concerns about Jackson ’s health in recent years but the promoters of the London shows, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a four-and-a-half hour physical examination with independent doctors.

I have been rewinding the movie, watching it all over again and now 3 times, am I crazy? Well I just need the music and to laugh a little right now. Being 'mummy's girl' and being homesick might have something to do with it. The message in the movie is right up my alley, "I can still recall our last summer, I can see it all.. in the tourist jam around the Notre Dame, holding hands.."It's all about memories, creating them and making the best out of life, grow old but not getting old and keep enjoying life..things we nod our heads to, agree with and already 'know' but my gosh, we need to be reminded from time to time..

After rain comes sun? After having a real dip in to the 'sad' pool I have managed to see the light again and feel so much better! With new energy and getting some work done on the computer and with the new collection I had to have a look on the Summer Collections already released and out in the stores. Since New Zealand is pretty much opposite everyone else in the world considering weather and season the cute dresses and summer tops are already in the sale section and the fronted garments are heavy knits and square printed Scottish looking skirts and tops. What was left of the the summer was instead way back in the store and almost hidden in the mens section.

Stockholm Fashion Week, the Designer Carin Wester is showing baby blue over-size shirts and big belts, can't help wondering if the models faces is weird? I admire the clothes..

I managed to have a look anyways and what girls are wearing or should I say, was wearing in NZ..is off white tops, still greatly combined with a pair of leggings, leather sandals roman style and boho tops, all in lace and with great detailing, vintage feel with loose fit. It is natural almost organic looking and goes great with highlights, a few braids and a suntan.

HOT on the heels of charging a five-figure appearance fee for visiting the fire-ravaged areas of Victoria, US TV star Carson Kressley has pulled out of a clothing deal with Myer because they couldn't meet his monetary demands.

Despite being in serious negotiations with the retail giant over a proposed Spring Racing Carnival fashion line since February, the former Queer Eye For A Straight Guy stylist has pulled the pin on the range because he expected more money.

Myer were the ones who paid Kressley more than $10,000 to attend a feel-good pre-Mothers Day visit to the devastated town of Whittlesea in Victoria, despite other celebs donating their time, and flew him to Australia for the Logies earlier this month.

Confidential understands the flamboyant gay icon did not believe the royalties from the range - which included shirts, ties, cuff links, hats and handkerchiefs - would justify the use of the "Carson" brand, although he was poised to pocket hundreds of thousands of dollars under the deal.
With the clothing deal not proceeding, it's fair to say Myer won't fork out the cash to have Kressley attend Melbourne Cup Week in November, as had been mooted.

"We had hoped the deal would come off, but that is business," Myer's Mitch Catlin said.

"Carson is still a great mate of Myer, but as the range will not be developed it is unlikely that we will be bringing him this year for the Cup carnival.

"The races this year would have been the perfect way to drive sales of the product."

Kressley's Australian representative, Max Markson, would not comment yesterday. "I am unable to discuss any of his commercial arrangements since they are confidential," he said.

Former drug addict and model Tovah Cottle says jail saved her life

SHE has been an international model, a drug addict and then a heroin dealer, but it took two years in jail to show Tovah Cottle what she really wanted was a career in fashion.

The 31-year-old is now in her second year of a fashion design course at Brisbane's Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE.

It's a world away from Cottle's 10-year association with drugs and crime that finally ended when she was jailed in 2005, The Courier-Mail reports.

The former model, who once graced the catwalks of Italy and New York, served 27 months behind bars for trafficking and supplying heroin.

"It was hard in that I wanted to be home with my family, and this will sound horrible, but jail was the best thing that ever happened to me in a way," Cottle said.

"Being in the lifestyle I was in, I didn't have a lot of social skills and I think I learned some of those in there."
Cottle said she kept busy in prison and did courses to help her build a new life on the outside. "Jail wasn't a negative experience for me at all," she said.

She was released from jail in December 2007.

Already her first attempt at racewear won her the young designers section of Fashions in the Field at Doomben this month.

"A lot of people said they loved my dress and a few asked if I was selling garments yet," she said.

"I'm just going to keep on at TAFE but my end goal is to have my own shop."

Now she successfully balances study, design and caring for her nine-year-old son and is determined to keep achieving her goals.

"I'm 31 now so I've really got to move it. I've already lost 10 years so I've got to step it up."

Calls for clothing size survey to reveal our true shape

A NATIONAL survey is needed to ensure women's clothing sizes measure up, a consumer advocate says.
Choice spokeswoman Elise Davidson said such a survey would give designers more information about the true shape of Australians and help educate women about different sizes.

"Women have become pretty good at knowing they're a size 12 in this shop, a size 10 in another, but there's definitely a gap that needs to be addressed," she said.

"What we really need is some good, solid data on exactly how we measure up."

Choice said differing sizes could lead to body image problems.

The Council of Textile and Fashion Industries Australia executive director Jo Kellock is concerned about the impact of sizing irregularities amongst young girls in particular.

"What I'm concerned about is the 13-year-old girl who's given $50 from her grandmother, she's gone to the shops for the first time with a friend and doesn't think about the poor design or the fact the garment's from overseas, she just says "it doesn't fit, something's wrong with me," she said.

The practice of "vanity sizing", where generous sizes are designed to entice a customer into buying a garment because they feel flattered to fit into a smaller size, is worth an estimated $2.8 billion.

The previous sizing standard was dropped two years ago and the most recent data collected on women was in 1975.

Flinders University body image expert Marika Tiggemann said women generally wanted to fit into smaller clothing, regardless of the size on the label.

Vanilla Boutique manager Gaye Colquist believes shop assistants can help educate customers, saying clothing produced overseas was often smaller because local manufacturers took the "Australian girl" into account.

– I would buy back my neighbor’s house who lost it to foreclosure due to predatory lending.
– I would give the $150,000 to the Mother, Child, and Adolescent HIV program for which I work. That money could keep a child on medication for 12.5 years. Most of our families live on less than $10,000 per year!
– I’d buy healthcare coverage for a month for, yikes, just 10 or 11 families …
– I would by 15000 warm winter jackets for the homeless at about 10 dollars each.

– Dental care for myself and all my other self-employed, self-insured workers.
– I would pay off medical bills. One from a thoractomy from two years ago for me, one also from two years ago and my son was uninsured because he had a “pre-existing condition” from when he was born nine years ago. Someone decided since I was induced due to toxemia that he was premature. Now I have to pay $5,000 for his broken arm because someone decided it was bad that he needed speech therapy at 3 yrs old, he was “premature” at 8 1/2 months and takes Ritalin…
– Textbooks for inner city children.
– Membership in Environmental organizations opposed to Drilling in the Alaskan natural Wildlife Preserve.
– Five full time case workers at our local domestic violence program, for a year, with benefits.
– Food for refugees in Darfur.
– My husband just had to close his business after 22 years of hard work.
–I would have used the money to help him keep his business or to help my two sons finish college. I also would have my husband use the time off to get his bachelor’s degree. He went to trade school and was a successful business owner (like Joe the plumber) until “W” got hold of this country and ruined it. It is too bad Sarah is not a nurse-we all could think of millions of humanitarian ways to spend that kind of money.
– Pay for the experimental cancer treatment that would help my daughter live longer.
– Her boots cost almost as much as my rent! Good thing I get food Stamps!
– I would donate it to the children’s cancer community my non-profit that helps families with a child with cancer.
– Body armor for ALL our troops overseas.
